The Kansas Blackboard Users Group is a new organization in the state dedicated to furthering the improved use of Blackboard in both K-12 and post-secondary education. Recently, the organization held its spring meeting where participants were able to see and experience the new upcoming Blackboard version 6, scheduled for release later this year. Mark Kourchin from Blackboard was on hand to show off this incredible new upgrade.
Joseph Mau
Dr. Joseph Mau uses Blackboard to enhance his Administration and School Psychology courses. Students access online PowerPoint presentations and online quizzes. He also uses a discussion board and the built-in chat room to facilitate student communication. Dr. Mau also makes extensive use of Blackboard's survey tool for which he collects data. He uses this data to measure the effectiveness of these technology enhancements.
Advanced Health Assessment
Heather Hull from the College of Health Professions has offered her hybrid course - Advanced Health Assessment - for three semesters. This unique course blends a course Web page with CD-ROMs developed at the Media Resources Center. Students access the course Web site for lesson material, discussion board activity, e-tests, and other related information. They then use a set of 16 custom CD-ROMs to view the course didactic material. These presentations include lectures from several leading Wichita-based physicians.
Global Learning Symposium
Global learning is the combination of global reach, using modern communication technologies, with global perspectives, achieved by having students and faculty interact with their counterparts in other cultures, to produce the global graduate.
